Re: Mail "FreeCommander Test version" for version 954

Ah, thanks!
My bookmark uses the download path, so I never saw that.

[SOLVED] Mail "FreeCommander Test version" for version 954

Hello,

I have received an email stating a test version 954 would be available that is "compiled with a newer version of Delphi."
However, I couldn't find that version on the registered downloads, so just wanted to make sure this is not some kind of scam...

Feature request: FC asking for permission to acccess "C:\Users\Public\Desktop" on startup

Hello,

I like to have only the things I need on my desktop, but automated software updates regularly create their icons on the public desktop. As in this environment, I don't have write permissions on that directory, I cannot delete those icons easily. My workaround was to also remove read access ...

Copy files from opened encrypted archive

Hi,

it is possible to open a zip or 7z as if it was a directory. From that view, it's possible to Ctrl+C a file and copy it into another directory.
For a password protected archive, FC asks for the password and opens the archive as a directory as it does with "normal" archives. However, it is *not ...

Re: 794 - Search doesn't find umlauts in utf-8 files

Build 928 now has the encoding selection field always visible (the value is saved and restored).

@Marek: Thanks for changing this!

Re: 794 - Search doesn't find umlauts in utf-8 files

Thanks for the workaround, but please also change this in the program itself.
Also, I still need to have the advanced mode enabled, which I prefer not to.
Main problem I see is that many users might be surprised or not even notice that the search dialog doesn't return what the user expects.

btw ...

Re: 794 - Search doesn't find umlauts in utf-8 files

As you didn't state a reason why this should be necessary, I can only guess that you mean downloading the file would change the encoding or something else.
Doesn't make a difference. Just tested it.

Re: 794 - Search doesn't find umlauts in utf-8 files

Came upon this problem again and noticed my old thread.
FreeCommander XE 2025 Build 927 64-bit donor

UltraEdit doesn't store a BOM. Notepad++ (8.7.8 ) shows UTF-8, but apparently saves the file with the Little-Endian-Notation "FF FE" BOM.

It works in FC when I manually configure the encoding to ...

Re: Opening search dialog is very slow

As yesterday was patchday, I have rebooted my laptop and now the dialog opens in 2-3 seconds (doesn't matter if using the default settings instance). Didn't think that this could be influenced by this so I didn't test before.

Normally, I only reboot on patchday and use hibernation mode to shutdown ...

Opening search dialog is very slow

This is not the newest laptop, but still, opening the search dialog shouldn't take 7 seconds.
Doesn't matter in which directory I try this. General use of FC is as expected without any delays.

What might cause this?

[solved] 900 - Ignores "shell:startup" as directory

FC doesn't open "shell:startup" using "Go to folder" (nothing happens). Should open the "Current User" Startup folder (C:\Users\myuser\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup).

Should also work for "shell:common startup" to open the "All Users" Startup folder (C:\ProgramData ...

Re: 896 - Rename fails when only changing upper and lower case

Got it: Renaming works on NTFS file system, but not on FAT32 or exFAT (neither in Windows Explorer).

Re: 896 - Rename fails when only changing upper and lower case

Just to verify: You ONLY changed upper/lower case WITHOUT changing any other part of the filename?
